Dr. Jill Hettinger

 

The Butte County School District is excited to announce the hiring of Dr. Jill Hettinger as its new Superintendent. Dr. Hettinger brings a wealth of experience in administration, curriculum development, and instructional leadership. Her extensive background in education has been developed from sixteen years of formal teaching and six years in administration. As a teacher, she worked within both traditional public and charter school environments. As an administrator, she led the Treasure Valley’s only K-12 STEM charter school as its Executive Director, fulfilling the responsibilities of both Superintendent and Principal.


Dr. Hettinger holds bachelor’s degrees in Zoology and Secondary Education from the University of Idaho and master’s degrees in Educational Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction from Boise State University. Jill also earned a doctoral degree from Boise State University, focusing on Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on STEM Leadership. She is certified in both elementary and secondary education and holds PreK-12 Administration and Superintendent credentials. Dr. Hettinger has worked within and supported a variety of school models, including traditional, classical, project-based learning, mastery-based education, and STEM-focused programs, giving her a broad and flexible perspective on what drives student success.

 

Throughout her career, Dr. Hettinger has demonstrated a strong commitment to teacher support and advancing educational outcomes for all students. Her contributions include developing professional development programs, strengthening community engagement, supporting early literacy through initiatives in the science of reading, working on state-level standards committees, enhancing STEM education across Idaho, and developing service-learning initiatives. She also supported the development of K-12 Agriculture and K-12 Robotics programs, expanding hands-on, career-connected learning opportunities for students.

 

Dr. Hettinger and her husband are proud natives of Idaho and have two sons. Their older son is studying Agricultural Systems Management at the University of Idaho, and their younger son will be joining him in the fall, studying Cybersecurity. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring new cultures and ecosystems through travel.
